Black Turban Snail
Tegula funebralis
Feeding on algae and seaweed, the Black Turban Snail
may live
to be 25 years old. The snailís ability to stick to objects
comes
from thin, elongated depressions on the foot which act
like suckers.
The eyes of a Black Turban snail are on tentacles that
can be
withdrawn in case of a threatening situation. If a turban
snail
shell is seen rapidly moving across a tidepool bottom,
it usually
contains a hermit crab.
Habitat/Range: Black Turban snails are very common
in the
tidepools in British Columbia to Baja California.
