Paper Yearbook Applicant: Tammy Lyons, LES/LMS Tech Assistant/Tech SupportNumber of Students Affected: 110 (all the LMS students)Length of Project: This project begins in September and is done by June.Project Description:
This project teaches students how to organize and manipulate digital photographs, and do the page layout to produce a 36 page paper yearbook that can be sold at an affordable cost to the students.Connections:
Although not everyone is involved in the actual production of the yearbook (about 20), all the students are involved in this yearbook in other ways, and reflected in their final project. There are many minor roles for the yearbook, such as taking pictures, and designing cover possibilities, and conducting the surveys. It gives students a sense of class pride and cohesion. Having the yearbook affordable is important for our community as many families are challenged economically.
Student Learning:
Students learn important computer skills in order to produce their yearbook. These include organizing and manipulating digital photos, creating, distributing, and tabulating surveys, page-layout, and planning the project. Student choice is maximized through all the decisions that have to be made to produce their yearbook, from the choice of cover design through collage layout . Their product will be shared with the school community, and the success of their learning will be obvious by the quality of their yearbook. Their sense of pride and ownership is another positive outcome of this project.
Support:
Last year the cost to produce this yearbook was $750 in printing costs. NCRCN was generous enough to fund half of this cost, and if you would be gracious enough to extend this it would be greatly appreciated. I am requesting $400. from NCRCN to produce a yearbook which every student could afford.
