Laytonville Project: 'Who Am I?' Mural

Project description: The Laytonville High School art teacher, Carolyn Carpenter, is an avid proponent of PBL. She regularly attends our summer seminars and together with her students and community mentors, create amazing art projects. Every four years the students create a tile mosaic entitled "Who am I?", where each student, teacher, and other staff paint, carve, or press into a 15" clay tile a visual image or quote representing who they are. The entire mural is surrounded by tiles impressed with the branches of the flora of our bioregion, along with their common and botanical names. By creating this mural every four years, it ensures that every student that graduates from LHS will have had the opportunity to be a part of this project, and leave a bit of themselves at the school site. Students love to hang out by the mural and talk about it.
