Laytonville Project: Socratic Seminar

Project description: Socratic Seminars, supported by NCRCN in the Laytonville schools, teaches deep thinking and respect for each other and each other's point of view.

Also called "Learning Community Through Thoughtful Dialog," this process presents relevant text, and communication skills are fostered in an environment that promotes respect, reflection, and questioning of their own beliefs.

The seminar process has been incorporated into the elementary/middle school ISOP program, and World History, American History, English, and Continuation classes at the High School. Students demonstrate the Socratic Seminar technique for teachers from their own school, and by traveling to other NCRCN schools.
