Brief Description of Project:
To bring in an elder who has lived in Laytonville for a long time
who can describe and share the changes within our community. |

Connections
How does the project connect with our theme of people, history,
and place? The project examines the history of Laytonville, the changes in
the people and our place.
How does the project interact with the community? By bringing in Kate Mayo who has lived in Laytonville for 54 years
to share artifacts and memories with the students.
How does the project connect with other NCRCN members/ sites?
By sharing pictures and video tapes of our visits with Kate Mayo
with other classes. We had hoped to eventually video conference
with another class who might like to share our experience.

How will the project improve student learning in relation to Holistic
Learner Outcomes?:

Self Directed Learner: Students can ask questions directly of Kate Mayo and observe
an elder. They will compare modern technology with examples of
old techniques.

Community Contributor: Learning more about their community inspires students to share
more within the community.

Constructive Thinker: Students will analyze how life has changed for people and Laytonville.
Students will share their own memories of change.

Quality Producer: Students will complete assignments in class in relation to changes
in people and place.

Effective Communicator: Students will ask appropriate questions of Kate. They will learn

What kind of support would you like from the coordinator? Transportation for Kate Mayo to and from the school. Help to document
the visits through pictures, audio taping and video. Possible
future video conference
with another class within NCRCN sites.
