Project description: Deb K'vaka's second grade class focus their study on "community," and their personal connections to their family, friends, and place where they live. Students then create their own books that act as a "time capsule" of their life and history. Students are given a disposable camera to take home just before winter vacation, and return with them in January for the film to be developed. Students must plan who and what they will take pictures of, and write descriptions and reflections on why they are important to them. Students will also interview a variety of people in their life as they learn more about other's past. Work from throughout the year is included, and the books put on display before the students take their "treasure" home.
