Mendocino Natives Nursery A cooperative effort of: Anderson Valley High School,Anderson Valley Nursery and North Coast Rural Challenge Network
Mendocino Natives Nursery Project is made up of two ongoing programs. Although they have clearly distinct missions, both programs share the same ultimate objective -- to promote community building through local involvement in issues related to watershed ecology, environmental restoration and native plants.
The Mendocino Natives Nursery Program is a community-driven, cooperative venture begun in 1998 to propagate and grow custom orders of site-specific native plants for watershed restoration projects throughout Mendocino County. Local high school students are employed as interns at the nursery facility located on the Anderson Valley High School campus. Interns receive job experience and training in native plant production under the supervision of Anderson Valley Nursery staff. The program is partly self-supported through plant sale income with additional support from the school district, grants, and the community. Most importantly, it serves as a valuable local resource, and nurtures long-term relationships with area landowners and public agencies.
![]() The Watershed Education/Anderson Creek Restoration Program is closely connected to Anderson Valley High School. It is designed to broaden learning opportunities about local watershed ecology and native plants at both the high school and in the community. Opportunities include classroom presentations, student science projects, and curriculum development. The program also has a strong component involving work on Anderson Creek demonstration site located at the edge of the campus. Emphasis is on continuing student involvement in the development, monitoring and maintenance of the site.
