Found in large colonies on rocks, the Gooseneck Barnacle
is
made up of a white and brown shell resting on a black
fleshy
stalk. This stock holds it above the substrate, which
allows these
organisms to twist their ìfacesî into the flow of water
for more
efficient filter feeding. At high tide, their feeding
legs resemble
feathers that make sweeping motions when collecting planktonic
food.
Habitat/Range: Gooseneck Barnacles are found on
rocky Pacific
seashores from British Columbia to Baja California.
